Obituary

On Monday, January 31, 2022, Tawanna Wade departed this earthly realm and was called to her heavenly home.  Tawanna was born to the late Mr. John Leroy Wade and Ms. Bertha Mae Wade on July 26, 1961, in Washington, DC.

Tawanna, affectionately known as "Wanda" among family, spent her childhood in Washington, DC. During her childhood days, she enjoyed bowling, skating, and participating in the Special Olympics.

Wanda was educated in the District of Columbia special education programs. She attended Kennedy Institute, Grimke, and Capitol Hill Day School.  Wanda loved school and never missed going to any of her programs.  She had perfect attendance.

A dedicated and hard worker, Wanda held a few jobs, working for the Department of Labor, Department of Interior, Chimes, and volunteered at Providence Hospital.  She was adamant about timeliness and always reported to work or any appointment before the scheduled time.

Wanda loved her family and was delighted to spend time with them.  She looked forward to every opportunity to get together with family to enjoy good food, music, and dancing.  A loving person, she always greeted family and friends with a "big" smile. Wanda loved to dance to the song "Step in the Name of Love."  She loved dressing up and going to church.  Wanda never missed a family member’s birthday.  Days before a birthday, she would remind the family of whose birthday was coming soon.

Wanda loved God and because of her relationship with the Lord, it gives the family comfort in knowing that she is now resting peacefully in the arms of her Savior and reunited with those that have preceded her in death: father John L. Wade, brother Antione Wade, grandmothers Robena Rogers and Catherine Washington, and grandfather Emmett Rogers.

Wanda’s memory will be cherished by her loving and devoted mother Bertha M. Wade, brothers Anthony M. Wade, Tyrone Rogers; John L. Wade, Jr., sisters Torree Wade, Trinita Wade (Howard), Malika Wade-Hamilton,  Veronica Wade –Elam; a devoted aunt Robin Washington; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
